You know that black tires and rims definitely make a statement when put on a car. But what type of “black” should you choose? Some of the different “shades” available include glossy black, flat black, and hyper black – just to name a few. Here is a brief informational summary of the three different shades, some ideas of what type of car each goes with, and some very general pricing information.
Glossy Black – A color that is very standout, shiny and sleek, this shade goes nicely on just about any vehicle – as long as the paint job is nice. While this is definitely for the guy who is into making his car “showy”, he would do best to stay away from it if he just wants to “hide” in with the general population.
Glossy black tires and wheels would be great on one of those economically sound, hybrid cars; in fact, they would give it the look of a brand new toy car – only life size! And, pairing up these rims with a car sporting a flashy red or bright yellow paint job would only make it look sportier. Moreover, they also go great on any type of sedan.
These babies aren’t cheap. If you’re looking at the brand new ones – and depending upon the size you need – be prepared to pay as much as your monthly car payment for the smaller rims, and look to fork over a house payment-sized amount for those cars that most of us will never be able to afford.
Flat Black – Here you have a shade with no “emotion” whatsoever in its make up. It’s a color that’s definitely understated, and some might even say dull. It is usually found on those military vehicles that are never welcome in the driveway – unless the driver is lost and only pulled up to ask for directions.
Besides military vehicles, flat black rims are sometimes seen on those cars that used to be family vehicles, but have somehow been transformed into bonafide serious race cars. It’s not unusual to have to look twice when you come across a small, bland former commuter vehicle that has been painted a serious dark purple, and paired with a set of these wheels, as at first, it’s common not to recognize it for what it is, until you take a closer look. You too, can have this for your car at prices starting around $200 per set for the basic breed, all the way to a couple thousand dollars – depending on what size and brand you want.
Hyper Black – These are rims that are actually a chrome color in which a distant cousin of the black shade is made to gleam through. The end result is a look that’s subtle and understated – yet expensive-looking, as well. Cars that look really nice with these rims on are those such as the mini “gangster-type” type car. New, they start out around two hundred dollar per set, and go up from there.
And, in your search for black tires, don’t forget about the auction houses! A lot of times, you can find sets of four rims – with tires – at prices starting at around six hundred dollars. However, if this is still too pricey for you, there’s always a way to find them even cheaper by checking out the many “gently” used sets that are for sale.
